Honoring the Champions

           Capturing a state championship is a very rare thing. It’s even sweeter when it’s your first one ever. In June, the Pirates of Perkins High School achieved that, winning the Ohio Division IV title with a 5-1 victory over Bishop Fenwick. On Tuesday, July 28, Sandusky Mall honored the team with a Champions Rally. 

           The mall management team congratulated the individual team members who attended, along with their Coach, T.J. Blanton, with each receiving a gift of appreciation. Additionally, The Cafaro Foundation presented Perkins School Superintendent Dr. Lonny Rivera with a donation of $10,000. 

           Six members of the Pirates’ team have now graduated but Coach Blanton said a good core of players remains to make a strong run at a repeat championship in the coming year.
